Motorcycle Rider Risk Assessments
Red line used as underline of heading, Half Day Advanced Motorcycle Course

For Private & Corporate Courses

There are two types of motorcycle rider risk assessments that we perform. One is for the purpose of securing cheaper bike insurance for the private motorcyclist, and the other, a Health and Safety risk assessment of those who ride motorcycles as part of their profession.

Bike Insurance Risk Assessment

When we looked at risk assessing riders for the purpose of customers getting cheap bike insurance we knew the process had to involve some method of reporting that would evidence the level of risk represented and in a format to be accepted by your bike insurance services provider.

What we were determined to achieve was for whatever process we took on board it was not to interfere with the spirit of the course. Therefore, everything is just as much fun as it would had you not chosen this option.

Motorcycle rider risk assessment reportTo make the process easy to implement we devised a very simple system, beginning with a quick to complete report document that uses a basic points system. The risk assessment process takes into account 39 riding competencies that are divided up over 6–group headings. These consist of,
  • Management of Controls
  • Hazard Management
  • Bend Work
  • Overtaking Skills
  • General Roadcraft
  • Fast Roads Riding

The document features two sets of scores for each discipline, one for the standard seen before training and one for after. As you retain the document, once supplied to you, it serves as a useful aid–memoir to help you recognise both your strengths and weaknesses and therefore understand the areas that will benefit from further practice. The scores also provide a scale by which you can quantify your rate of improvement.

Riding for a Living

From time to time we attract the attention of those who employ professional motorcyclists. Not everyone who rides a motorcycle for work purposes is a courier. We have worked with those who have a responsibility for testing motorcycle products for manufacturers and radio engineers, who work for organisations who supply the emergency services communications equipment.

When asked to perform a Health and Safety risk assessment of professional motorcyclists we use a different format of reporting to that of the bike insurance risk assessment. The information on this occasion we record has to be suitable for Health & Safety risk evaluation of company personnel. Nonetheless, the process is completed with the same high degree of professionalism, no matter what the reason for the task.
